Bison Population is Recovering, a New Victory for Nature
The North American Bison is making a comeback and is expected to be totally restored in about 100 years. This is good news for nature lovers like us.
Used to number in the tens of millions, relentless hunting and widespread habitat devastation caused the bison population to drop to about 1,000 individuals in 1889. In other words, they were almost wiped out into extinction. Good thing that there are people who took action and slowly the bison population grew.
Due to the starting efforts of the American Bison Society back in 1905 and those who joined them afterwards, the Bison population is now estimated at 500,000 with around 20,000 considered wild. The rest of the population are in private ranches doing farm work. If the population continues to grow then in just 100 years or so, the North American Bison will be really back.
This just shows that no matter how small we are, we can achieve something big if we join our hands together.
